Dog Blogger to be cont.

I have a bone to pick with cats.

I have a bone to pick with cats.

I blogged my way through 2013, letting the world know about my interesting life as a miniature dachshund.

My name is Zoey.

But you can call me Zoey the Cutest Dachshund Ever, or Zoey, the CEO of Cuteness.

I earned this title in 2013 and will continue demonstrating why I’m cute, lovable and in need of constant attention in 2014.

In 2013, I blogged once a week for 49, not 52 weeks. I got too busy those few times to sit down in front of a computer and write about life, when I was out living life.

I wrote about the qualities of cute dogs, gave advice on how to take care of and love pet dogs, and told stories from my own life.

I wrote a couple of poems (called canine poetry) and retold a few fairy tales so that they starred me.

And, occasionally, I wrote about cats, but not too much because I’ve been noticing that they’re not that friendly. I tried to befriend the neighbor cat, Cheddar, an orange Main Coon, but he hissed and backed away every time I tried to say “hi.” Gee, as if “hi” is a mean, threatening word.

And then there’s Kiara, a princess of a cat who sits on her pedestal and glares at me whenever I’m over for a visit. Each time I invite her to play, she hisses and hunches her back or scratches at my nose. This behavior is not very nice, especially considering that her owner is always saying to her, “Nice kitty.” More accurate would be to say Rude Cat, because she isn’t nice and she isn’t young.

I don’t understand why cats have to be so cliquey, telling the world, “Well, if you’re a dog and not a cat, I’m not interested in your being seen and heard.”

Alternatively, I’m a very nice, equal opportunity dog who wants to be friends with dogs my size or smaller (not big dogs – too scary!), cats, birds, geese and anything else in the animal kingdom.

Anyway, in 2014, I’ll blog about the dog life, my life and life without cats. If they don’t like me, I don’t like them (imagine my snout turned skyward). Humph!

Shopping With Your Dog

In All About Me, Being Cute, Shelley and Zoey, Shelley Widhalm on December 22, 2013 at 11:30 am

Zoey's all dressed and ready to go shopping at the dog-friendly stores.

Zoey’s all dressed and ready to go shopping at the dog-friendly stores.

I love the holidays because my BFF Shelley takes me out to the dog-friendly shopping malls. I get to be carried inside the store, where I can see all the sale items.

Being carried is advantageous when you’re a long-haired miniature dachshund with short legs.

What I see and smell is all low to the ground. I want the apex of vantage points to search out potential dog lovers, so that when they see me, they remark on my cuteness and want to pet me.

I want to be able to see everything from the human eye level to the ground, instead of relying on my sense of smell and knowledge of feet and shoes. That’s because my two aims in life are finding, eating and getting food (a top priority) and, second, getting attention. Attention results in petting sessions, playtime and cuddles.

Attention also reminds me that I’m cute and as the cutest dachshund this side of the Mississippi, I need the occasional reminder. That way I never doubt my state of cuteness and remain confident at all times.

I think we all need to hear positive feedback, whether we’re human or a dog or a cat. (Yep, I like cats because they’re my size and potential friends – sometimes; I just don’t get why some cats don’t like dogs and get all hissy about it.)

By the way, my birthday was two days ago. I turned five on Dec. 20. Five!

A (Very Cute) Dog’s Birthday Wishes

In All About Me, Being Cute, Birthday Dog, Shelley Widhalm on December 15, 2013 at 11:30 am

This is an obvious way to love your dog by hosting a birthday party just for them. Zoey's birthday is Dec. 20, and she would like you to put the date in your calendar.

This is an obvious way to love your dog by hosting a birthday party just for them. Zoey’s birthday is Dec. 20, and she would like you to put the date in your calendar.

I turn five in five days on Friday, Dec. 20.

Just like superstars and supermodels that don’t show their age, I, too, have kept my puppy good looks. I am, as you know if you regularly read my blog, the cutest dachshund this side of the Mississippi. That’s because I have cute expressions and a cute face; just ask my BFF Shelley and anyone who stops to pet me.

But enough of the ego stuff. I just want to let the world know that my wish list for my birthday also applies to Christmas.

Here is what I want for my big day and then on the holiday:

• Treats, particularly chewy, chicken- or beef-flavored bones.
• Stuffed animals that are larger than me, so that I can grab them by the scruff and shake, shake, shake, in imitation of my wild side.
• Balls for fetch, that once I tire of chasing, I chew off the outer layers, rolling the ball between my paws to pull apart every seam. My BFF Shelley doesn’t like it when I do this.
• No new clothes (I am forced to wear them, and I put up with it, because I’m a nice dog and all).
• Love and lots of attention, preferably 24-7.
• Play dates with other dogs (as long as they’re my size or smaller) and cats. I just love cats, but they seem, for some reason I can’t figure out, to not like me so much.
• Table food, instead of dog food.

(Note from Shelley: All right, I got your list, but you won’t get everything on it, silly, because it’s too long.)

(Note from Zoey: I disagree that it’s too long! It’s just right.)

Dog and Cat Days

In All About Me, Being Cute, Shelley and Zoey, Shelley Widhalm on December 8, 2013 at 11:30 am

I hate when I have to wear clothes, especially ones with legs.

I hate when I have to wear clothes, especially ones with legs.

OK, enough is enough. I’ve given my BFF Shelley the limelight for an entire month about her participating in NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, which is in November.

After this, Shelley needs to pay heed to YesDogMo, or National Pay Attention to Your Dog all the Time Month, to be celebrated every month of the year.

Shelley has a really cool calendar that she got from PetPlan, the pet insurance she has for me, just in case I get sick or hurt.

Here are some of the special days in the calendar:

• Jan. 21, Squirrel Appreciation Day (Go Squirrels!)
• Jan. 22, Walking the Dog Day
• April 11, National Pet Day
• June 20, Take You Dog to Work Day
• July 11, All-American Pet Photo Day
• Aug. 16, Homeless Animals Day (We all need a loving home!)
• Aug. 26, National Dog Day
• Oct. 29, National Cat Day (Hey, I like cats, too.)
• Nov. 17, Black Cat Day

My absolute favorite day is Feb. 20, Love Your Pet Day.

I could do without this day: Jan. 14, Dress Up Your Pet Day.

Dog-Gone Sad about NaNoWriMo

In All About Me, Being Cute, Best friends, Shelley and Zoey, Shelley Widhalm on December 1, 2013 at 11:30 am

I am pouting as I try to sleep a little, too.

I am pouting as I try to sleep a little, too.

Can’t my BFF Shelley stop writing for NaNoWriMo? She writes all the time, all day at work as a journalist and then after work until bedtime.

I guess it’s because she’s gone all batty about words. And I’m going batty over my long-drawn-out neglect. Poor me for the whole long month.

But thank goodness NaNoWriMo is over, and I get my BFF Shelley back. She wrote 51,004 words.

I’m kind of proud of her, but I’m also mad because she did not provide me with my daily required dose of attention.

Shelley (interrupting Zoey’s typing): Zoey, you were with me the whole time when I was writing. And I took you on walks and out for runs.

Zoey: But you were doing other stuff at that silly computer.

Shelley: I gave you lots of treats.

Zoey: You were just trying to buy my love.

Shelley: Did it work?

Zoey: Can I have a treat now, too?

Shelley: Of course!

I get a treat and Shelley’s attention, too. Oh, and I like cake!
