Poems from a canine poet

In Canine Poet, Canine Poetry, Canine Writer on March 13, 2016 at 11:30 am

ZoeyLoCoI am a canine poet and would like to share with you some of the poems I’ve written in honor of National Poetry Month in April.

Plus, my BFF Shelley is reading her poetry at a poetry reading 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 20, the first day of spring, at the Loveland Museum/Gallery in Loveland, Colorado. The reading is called, “Come Rain, Come Shine”—A spring equinox celebration in poetry and music.

Shelley will be reading half a dozen poems focused on spring and will have five minutes, along with the other poets, who also will be focusing their expression on the season and the equinox.

I wish she’d read my poems instead. Here are three of them:

I turn the fence into a silvered blur

Until a bird sings, sound floating

Off the flap of wings.

I slow each step, an easing of paws

On stiff brown grass,

In my silent approach

I could chase air things

Get them grounded—

But off I go again,

As if a ship sailing circles

Enclosing possibilities

Until the next bird comes along,

Hope before its leaving.

An everyday dog’s view

By Zoey the Cute Dachshund

What I see every day you don’t

with your busyness and wanting to be

something important.

I get to lie down on paws,

look out the window

bark at passersby

as I blog about life,

not caring if what I say

means extravagance,

just a simple thought

that I’m okay just lying here

By Zoey the Cute Dachshund

I am not lost

With you in my heart

Squeezed against your side,

Licking the salt off your hand,

Kissing you,

Loving you,

Not wanting anything but

Being here.

Cute dogs and treats (and blogs)

In Cute Dogs, Very Cute Dogs on March 6, 2016 at 11:30 am

I’m feeling a bit lazy—could it be the dog days of summer, though it’s not even spring? For that reason, I thought I’d share my BFF Shelley and cowriter’s blog this week, or reblog her blog.

But first, here’s a picture of cute me.

I am cute waiting for attention at a coffee shop.

Second, I have to let you know, Shelley ends her blog with the line “You get your treat.”

I want my treat. I like milkbones, cheese, carrots, green beans and anything human food-related. I like some of my doggie treats, too, but I prefer anything from the table. Table food. Table scraps.

I deserve my treat, too.
