A thankful puppy!

I’m thankful for lots of things, even this bow in my ear!

My BFF Shelley wrote about how she’s thankful for me, which she should be because I’m so cute! She wrote about me (and some other things) to give thanks on Thanksgiving.

I, too, want to give thanks.

I’m thankful for food, toys, playtime, cats and getting love and pets. And I’m thankful for having a BFF and being a BFF.

Here’s what my BFF said about me in her blog at Shell’s Ink:

Giving thanks is a given for Thanksgiving, and the way my family and I said thank you added fun and creativity to the holiday.

This year, my brother and I visited our mother at her assisted living place for the noon meal.

Most of the residents sat at a long table in the center of the dining room, but a few of the families joined together at their own tables. Before the staff served the traditional fare of turkey, stuffing, potatoes and cranberries, the new volunteer director of activities told the 50 or so people in the room to find their tags next to the silverware and write what they were thankful for.

My first one was easy—and sorry this is sideways, but I couldn’t get the photo to rotate—because it was about my dog, Zoey. I wrote “My dog, Zoey,” and my mom said, “I knew you’d write that one.”

Next, I put my apartment, because I love it and where I live, feeling like it’s the first place that’s a perfect fit and so me.

I also love books, and I love writing and the fact that I love to write.

I got four tags, when there were supposed to be three per person, which was a good thing, because four wasn’t enough.

I’m also thankful for:

  • Nice people and getting smiles.
  • Running and lifting weights.
  • Being in shape.
  • The seasons and seeing spring leaves and the colors of fall.

And my list could go on and on.

The important thing is taking a moment to reflect—not just on Thanksgiving but every day. I try to find one thing to be thankful for, though Zoey always is a given, so really it is at least two things.

Pacing for dogs

In Cute Dachshunds, Cute Dogs, Zoey the Cute Dachshund on September 4, 2016 at 11:30 am

Sophie and Zoey

Zoey, right, and Sophie play at a fast pace.

As a miniature dachshund, I find pacing to be a silly concept.

There are two types of pacing: napping and playing.

In my napping pace, I curl into a loose ball atop the couch pillows or next to the edge of my doggie bed. I don’t go anywhere, so if you were watching me, you would see how cute I am with my eyes closed.

I bet you could watch me for a long, long time, because I sigh, I switch positions and I snap open my eyes when I hear noises, then return to dreamland.

Oh, is that too slow for you?

Well, join me for a run as I shoot out the door, stop to sniff at the feral cat area by the shed and bark as I hurry along the fence to return to the porch. I lift my snout and sniff. I better run another lap, and so I do.

That’s the fast pace.

So is playing when I engage in tug-of-war, a game of chase or go after my balls and toys that are thrown to the end of the hall.

A medium pace is for going on walks, when I mosey along, stopping at all fire hydrants, light poles, trees and flower beds to sniff and sniff. I become investigative as I slow down and then annoyed when I get pulled away from my dreamy wondering about which dogs had come by this or that spot.

“Come on, Zoey,” I hear as I’m lifted by my harness as if I’m flying through the air. I quicken my pace with paws circling until I land. I dig in, wanting to stay.

You see, I don’t want to keep pace with humans when I’ve got my own path to follow.

(I recycled this blog from 2012, because I’m kind of tired right now and need a doggie break from blogging.)

Cute dog shows off

A (cute) dog’s reflections on barking

In Barking Dogs, Being Cute, Cute Dogs, Loud barks, Uncategorized on July 10, 2016 at 11:30 am

I like to bark excessively.

I bark at dogs larger than me, at wheels and at loud, sudden bursts of sound.

Zoey6

I’m cute when I bark.!

Shelley, my BFF, tells me No Bark, but I don’t listen.

I bark and bark some more.

I probably need a dog whisperer to stop.

Or a stronger enforcement of my silence.

But I’m not going to be silent.

I want the world to know that I’m here, and that I’m cute.

I want the world to know that I have a voice.

So, therefore, I won’t be quiet, not when I can growl, grumble, whimper, bark, howl and make shrill sounds that sound like a multiple, layered snapping of my jaws. I won’t because I’m just trying to be in my being-ness through my noise.

I bark, therefore I am.

Dogs and the holidays

In A Dog's Need for Attention, Being Cute, Best friends on December 20, 2015 at 11:30 am

Zoey3

I’m winter ready in my bow and jacket.

I love the holidays because my BFF Shelley takes me out to the dog-friendly shopping malls. I get to be carried inside the store, where I can see all of the sale items.

Being carried is advantageous when you’re a long-haired miniature dachshund with short legs.

What I see and smell is all low to the ground. I want the apex of vantage points to search out potential dog lovers, so that when they see me, they remark on my cuteness and want to pet me.

I want to be able to see everything from the human eye level to the ground, instead of relying on my sense of smell and knowledge of feet and shoes. That’s because my two aims in life are finding, eating and getting food (a top priority) and, second, getting attention. Attention results in petting sessions, playtime and cuddles.

Attention also reminds me that I’m cute and as the cutest dachshund this side of the Mississippi, I need the occasional reminder. That way I never doubt my state of cuteness and remain confident at all times. I think we all need to hear positive feedback, whether we’re human or a dog or a cat. (Yep, I like cats because they’re my size and potential friends – sometimes; I just don’t get why some cats don’t like dogs and get all hissy about it.)

A Dog’s Take on NaNoWriMo

In Shelley and Zoey, Shelley Widhalm on November 8, 2015 at 11:30 am

Check out what my BFF Shelley blogged this week about National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, where she spends her free time writing instead of paying attention to me.

Here is her post: https://shelleywidhalm.wordpress.com/?p=1078

I have to admit she writes with me next to her. She likes to write at coffee shops, and there’s one she likes to go to that allows her to bring dogs. Plus, she loves their iced caramel lattes, but now that it’s getting cold, she’s switching it up to pumpkin spice lattes. I prefer the lattes with the whipped cream on top that I get to lick up. Homemade whipped cream with drizzles of caramel is heaven, especially for a cute puppy like me.

I’m cute, right? You can confirm for yourself by checking out my photos.

Zoey the Cute Dachshund brags on her cuteness factor

In Shelley and Zoey, Shelley Widhalm on October 25, 2015 at 11:30 am

I wanted to share some new photos of a very cute dachshund (that’s me) to demonstrate cute dogs rule.

Being cute is hard work, but it’s something I like doing.

I like attention. I like being told I’m cute, pretty, beautiful, poised and darling.

I am Zoey. Call me the Cutest Dachshund ever.

I am cute as I help Shelley, my BFF, take notes for her work.

Work-life balance (or seeking pets)

In Being Cute, Shelley and Zoey, Shelley Widhalm on October 4, 2015 at 5:30 am

I am seeking attention, and I get it, because I'm really cute!

I am seeking attention, and I get it, because I’m really cute!

I love to get attention, and I love to get pets, so what I do is hang out with my BFF Shelley as she writes and stare down the passersby.

As they approach, I sit taller and wiggle my tail, focusing my attention on them, as if I’m saying, “Here I am, here I am.”

Seventy-five percent of the time—this is when Shelley and I are at the coffee shop and she’s writing and I’m on the lookout—people stop and say, “Isn’t she cute?” They pause, and Shelley—thankfully—asks them if they want to pet me. And they usually say yes, and I always say yes.

They stop, and I get the attention I need and deserve.

I hear things like I’m a magnet, I’m pretty, I’m beautiful, I have a cute face, I’m darling, and I’m lovable. I’m such a lover. I’m a good girl.

In fact, I’m the cutest dachshund ever. Wouldn’t you agree from seeing my pictures?

Cute dog blogger at work

In All About Me, Being Cute, Shelley and Zoey, Shelley Widhalm on September 13, 2015 at 11:30 am

I am the product. I am the process.

I am cute.

Product and process.

My BFF and co-blogger Shelley blogged this week about writer’s block and how just doing writing helps you write and get the words to flow. It’s like the process of writing helps you write. As you write, you get a product.

Yep, I’m philosophical. I’m smart. And I’m cute.

My name is Zoey, and I’m the cutest dachshund ever.

While Shelley works on her writing at the coffee shop, I sit with her staring out at the sidewalk, wiggling my tail at all the passersby. Most of them stop and ask to pet me. And I eat it up, wiggling my tail so fast you just see a blur.

I get told that I’m cute, I have a cute face, I’m pretty, I’m friendly, and I’m oh so nice.

In fact, I consider myself the ambassador of cuteness.

Check it out, me being cute and all.

I'm cute when I'm sleeping.

National Zoey Day is here!

In Shelley and Zoey, Shelley Widhalm on August 30, 2015 at 5:30 am

National Dog Day was on Wednesday, but National Zoey Day is every day.

Why?

Because I need love and attention and my picture to be taken every day. I need to be seen and acknowledged, not just on one day, but all days of the year.

I, therefore, declare Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 National Zoey the Cute Dog Year. In other words, every year is National Zoey Year.

Thanks.

Have a nice day.

And, just so you can pay me some more attention, here are a few cute photos of me, Darling Zoey the Dachshund.
