I like attention, and I like to share, too. That’s why every so often, I hit Share to show off my cuteness factor.

These are just a few photos of the CEO of cuteness, Zoey the Dachshund!

Visiting the vet (and other doggie dealings)

Going to the vet made me really, really tired. I'm about to fall asleep here on my queen-size bed.

Going to the vet made me really, really tired. I’m about to fall asleep here on my queen-size bed.

My BFF Shelley spent some of her vacation this week sitting in front of a computer, working on her novel. Sheesh. She should have spent all of her free time with me, because I’m really cute and I’m her BFF.

My name is Zoey, and I’m the cutest dachshund ever.

The fact I’m cute didn’t stop my BFF from taking me to the vet on Monday and getting my nails trimmed right after. I was so traumatized, all I could do was take a nap and look sleepy when I wasn’t napping.

Luckily, the vet didn’t call my BFF to report a problem. The vet had told her no calls or no news meant good news.

The good news meant I was healthy.

Though unhappy, at least for a few hours.

Shelley’s mom, who she visited that day, said my eyes were glassy, and I wanted to say, “Wouldn’t your eyes be glassy if you were stuck with a really big needle for your bordetella shot? And if you were poked and prodded to see if you were healthy, too?”

The vet told Shelley I had good muscle tone and was at a good weight at 10.4 pounds. Yeah, I work at it. I take walks, well because Shelley makes me, as I’m attached at the other end of a pink leash. Can’t she just let me go for a stroll all by myself? She won’t even let me get too close to the edge of the sidewalk or walk across busy streets. She carries me. She’s kind of over-protective.

Maybe that’s a good thing, because it shows she loves me. But do you blame her?

I’m cute after all.

Giving Dogs Healthy Doses of Attention

In Shelley and Zoey, Shelley Widhalm on October 11, 2015 at 11:30 am

I'm at the coffee shop waiting for someone to stop by and say hi, so I get attention!

I’m at the coffee shop waiting for someone to stop by and say hi, so I get attention!

I need, require, deserve and desire attention.

My name is Zoey, and I’m the cutest dachshund in the www, or whole wide world. Here’s why.

Dog training books recommend dogs get daily attention through walks, exercise and play time. They need love and attention, as well as stimulation to keep their minds active and to be socialized.

If they don’t receive this attention, they can be harder to train and become disobedient and destructive. When left alone, they may chew on shoes and furniture, get into trash and mark beds and floors (puppies chew as part of the teething process, but adult dogs should have learned acceptable behaviors and identified the difference between the chewable and not so chewable options).

Seeking immediate attention, they may resort to jumping up, barking, whining, pawing and dropping a toy or ball into the lap. These behaviors are cute in a puppy, but adult dogs need to know about positive ways of seeking attention, such as sitting nicely or playing with their dog toys on their own.

Dogs need to have some independence, so don’t reward them if they’re continuously demanding your notice. Help them develop their own interests by giving them something new to chew.

Don’t reward them for poor behavior, such as barking or pawing at you, because the attention only temporarily stops their undesirable behavior. They’ve learned they can get a response out of you and will do it again.

As soon as they return to good behavior, reward them for that.

Finally, don’t leave a dog for more than eight hours a day. Then they’ll really have a reason to complain and bark and behave poorly.

Cute dog blogger at work

In All About Me, Being Cute, Shelley and Zoey, Shelley Widhalm on September 13, 2015 at 11:30 am

I am the product. I am the process.

I am cute.

Product and process.

My BFF and co-blogger Shelley blogged this week about writer’s block and how just doing writing helps you write and get the words to flow. It’s like the process of writing helps you write. As you write, you get a product.

Yep, I’m philosophical. I’m smart. And I’m cute.

My name is Zoey, and I’m the cutest dachshund ever.

While Shelley works on her writing at the coffee shop, I sit with her staring out at the sidewalk, wiggling my tail at all the passersby. Most of them stop and ask to pet me. And I eat it up, wiggling my tail so fast you just see a blur.

I get told that I’m cute, I have a cute face, I’m pretty, I’m friendly, and I’m oh so nice.

In fact, I consider myself the ambassador of cuteness.

Check it out, me being cute and all.

I'm cute when I'm sleeping.

I'm cute when I'm awake.

I would like to share some photos of cute, darling, adorable, pretty, beautiful me.

Hello there. I am very cute, don't you think?

Hi again! I'm cute here, too, in my pajamas, though my expression is a bit grumpy. You see, I don't really like to have clothes on, because I'm a dog.

A Dog’s Favorite Objects (in words)

In A dog's favorite objects, Dog toys on June 28, 2015 at 11:30 am

I am taking a nap among a few of my favorite toys.

I am taking a nap among a few of my favorite toys.

I have a few favorite objects, and treats are my favorite of all the objects in the world.

Why?
Because I get to eat and enjoy them and then remember that I had the enjoyment, so I seek more to relive the experience.

I have a few other favorite objects, including:

  • My white teddy bear that’s bigger than me that I use to do Foot, a relaxing, zen-like technique of biting the neck and moving my front paws back and forth in a repetitive movement, just like I used to do when I was feeding as a puppy. (By the way National Puppy Day was last month on March 24, when lots of memories of my puppyhood came to the surface, such as when I would bite at the snow and run barking wildly after birds, wanting to be their friends.)
  • Coffee shop chairs where I can be noticed by passersby or sit on laps.
  • Laps of all kinds, because I like to cuddle and be loved.
  • Floors and the ground and anywhere else I can bounce on my hind legs in an eager plea for petting, or where I flip onto my side to show my belly, begging for the pets.
  • The bed where I sleep, so I can hide underneath when I need alone time.
  • My box of teddy bears and toys that, somehow, always gets picked up, even when I take everything out for playtime.
  • My hedgehog teddy bear, because he happens to be my best friend.

Oh wait, Shelley, my pet parent, is my best friend. And then I have friend friends. And I have friends I want to make. And friends who could become so. It helps, though, that I’m cute and extra friendly, attracting the attention.

Cute Dog Contests

In Cute Dogs, Dog Contests on April 5, 2015 at 11:30 am

Don't I look extra cute in my hat? Yes, I do!

Don’t I look extra cute in my hat? Yes, I do!

If I were to enter a contest (I entered one and lost but I think that was a mistake), I would be declared the cutest dachshund, or really the cutest dog, to have ever lived.

My name is Zoey. I am six. And I am a long-haired miniature dachshund who loves everybody and is loved by everybody.

What makes me lovable?

Well, for one I’m cute.

Two, I ask for attention by wiggling my tail, looking up at the person until they see me and acknowledge my existence and cuteness factor, and once attention ensues, rolling on my side to show my belly (indicating that, yes, I want to be petted).

I have big brown eyes, long black-tipped ears and a fluffy tail, making me pretty, cute and adorable all in one puppy package.

I also am cute when I stand on my hind legs and cross my paws, indicating I want something. I can sit, lie down, spin or look pretty. But I won’t shake. These are some of my tricks. Nothing too fancy, but they show that I’m a good listener, a skill that’s important for being lovable and loved.

In conclusion, I need to be loved, liked and told I’m cute, because I am.

Thanks.

Dog Blogger sets goals for 2015

In Dog Blogger, New Year's Resolutions on January 4, 2015 at 11:30 am

I am chewing on a treat. I love treats!

I am chewing on a treat. I love treats!

As a dog (a very cute one, in fact), I’m not exactly one to come up with impossible New Year’s resolutions to carry out over the next year. Rather, I live in the moment.

I have two major goals each year and each day: getting yummy food and getting attention.

The attention bit comes from the fact that I am a really cute long-haired miniature dachshund. Wherever I go, people want to pet me, often remarking how cute I am, and I just eat it up. In fact, I’m probably the cutest, prettiest and most fascinating dog in the world.

My name is Zoey, and I’m six years old. I weigh 10 pounds, though there isn’t anything small about me and my big personality. I love to play hard, run down the hall or in big yards and chew Nylabones, rawhides and my toys.

This year, I have come up with sub-goal to my major goals that I want to blog about. For instance, when my BFF Shelley reads books about dog behavior to try to understand complicated me, I will write about what she learned and simplify it for her so she gets it. I will talk about my really interesting life. And I will tell a few canine tales.

So here’s to a Happy 2015 Blogging Year.

And as an extra treat, here is another photo of cute me.

I am cute as I wait for attention as my BFF Shelley types on her laptop at a coffee shop.

Okay, you get the point.
